The 10 Best Albums of 2017

Like the past several years, 2017 has been particularly grueling, for reasons I don’t think I have to explain.  Yet bad times can bring out the best in music, and 2017 had no shortage of good albums.  So lo and behold, here are my 10 favorite albums of the past 12 months.

10. Curse of Conception (Spirit Adrift)

9. Clairvoyant (The Contortionist)

8. in•ter a•li•a (At the Drive-In)

7. The Dusk in Us (Converge)

6. Dead Cross (Dead Cross)

5. War Moans (Mutoid Man)

4. Heartless (Pallbearer)

3. Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora (Darkest Hour)

2. Urn (Ne Oblivisciris)

1. Nightmare Logic (Power Trip)

Honorable Mentions:

Crossover Ministry (Iron Reagan)

Eroded Corridors of Unbeing (Spectral Voice)

Lifeless God (Phobia)

Lunar (Without Waves)

Medusa (Paradise Lost)

Mirror Reaper (Bell Witch)

Nightbringers (The Black Dahlia Murder)

Thin Black Duke (Oxbow)

Trumpeting Ecstasy (Full of Hell)

Wick (Royal Thunder)

  1. Nice list, no Melvins tho! =[ hehe

A lot of stuff there I haven’t heard. I’ll have to youtube some stuff for sure.

I will say tho that I don’t really like Power Trip. Perhaps I need to give it a few more spins, it just seems super repetitive. Every song I listened to sounded the same, and they aren’t exactly short songs, at least the ones I watched anyway. Might give it another chance

    • Thrashcore isn’t known for its originality, but I really like Power Trip. I’ve seen them a couple of times live, and they always put on a great performance.

Check out all of these other albums, all great stuff. I think you’d really like Full of Hell.

      • Cheers, will check it out now. The link isn’t embedded or anything tho, can you just send me the normal link?

      • Here you go, let me know what you think.

      • this is fucking sick. I’m gonna grab their albums. Reeeeeally dig the tempo changes, we do that a lot too, Good shit man!

      • BROTHER!!!!

Lucky has just hit the interwebz. Download that sucker, its fabulous, funny, Lynch is awesome, Harry is just amazing, and it DEMANDS a rewatch when it finishes. Feels like a fitting elegy to Harry, as one of the many themes is his character’s (90 years old) fear of dying, though he doesn’t want to admit it.

      • I’m planning on catching a theatrical rerelease playing near me next month, but it looks great. Totally regret missing it in theaters, and I’m always up for Lynch doing more acting work.

      • Oh NICE, seeing in as theatre would be great. Amazing flick, even more so given the themes of the movie and Harry’s recent passing
