R. I. P. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip_Seymour_Hoffm-10

Tragic news: Philip Seymour Hoffman died earlier this morning, found in his New York apartment with a hypodermic needle in his arm.  I’ve long been a fan of Hoffman, who has exhibited a career of brilliance, from his multiple collaborations with Paul Thomas Anderson (MagnoliaBoogie Nights) to his Oscar winning performance in Capote.  He was one of the best and boldest actors working today, with a variety of films under his belt that show how impressive his resume is.

Hoffman had the ability to vitalize any character he played with a strong personality, such as the menacing yet inviting Lancaster Dodd of The Master (see the clip above to watch part of his amazing performance).  A talent like Hoffman rarely comes by and he will surely be missed.

  1. R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman. What a loss of an unbelievable talent. I immediately thought of The Master but he’s been so good in so many movies capable of any range. He’s the kind of actor you’d suffer through a lousy movie for just to see his performance. Wow he will be missed.

    • He always delivers such great performances and even is the redeeming factor of any bad movie you saw him in (i. e. Patch Adams). Hoffman was a great actor and he will be missed indeed.

  2. This is terrible news. Hoffman has always been one of my favorite actors. I last saw him in The Hunger Games and I loved him there. His scenes with Southerland were fantastic and added so much to the film. Going to miss him in any future PTA films and who knows how many others he could have been in.
