What’s Your Favorite Movie of the Summer?

Today is the first today of September, which marks the conclusion of the summer season in Hollywood.  So since the timing, I thought I’d ask what’s your favorite movie of the past few months?

before-midnight-imageBefore Midnight is my pick, and it is currently a strong contender for being the best film of the year.  I’m a big fan of Richard Linklater, who solidified every summer for me with Dazed and Confused, and this is one of his best movies in my opinion.  I’d follow that with Edgar Wright’s The World’s End, the final film in the Cornetto trilogy.  The film not only delivered plenty of laughs but displayed a maturity that’s rare amongst comedies these days.

But what’s your favorite?

  1. It’s a tie between Much Ado About Nothing and a local screening of M if we’re sticking with movies shown in a theater. If not, I’d go with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

    • Nice picks. I haven’t seen Much Ado About Nothing, but I love M and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

  2. Pacific Rim and The Conjuring.

    • Nice picks! I haven’t seen either unfortunately since I’ve been so busy over the summer.

  3. I have not seen The Conjuring and The World’s End yet.

I expect to see one of these two as my favorite movie of Summer 2013.

Right now, I would sayFurious 6 was the best escapist fare of the all the summer blockbsusters.

    • Nice pick! I have not seen that yet. I recommend seeing The World’s End, I think it’s the best of the Cornetto trilogy.

  4. Mine would still have to be the movie that kicked the summer off with a bang, Iron Man 3. In fact, it’s still the best movie of 2013 I’ve seen so far. Close seconds of the summer would include The World’s End and White House Down, but everything else has been pretty meh for the most part.

    • Nice picks! Yeah, 2013 has been pretty mediocre so far for film. Hopefully the second half will be much better.

  5. The Way Way Back & Fruitvale Station.

    • Nice picks! Still need to see both.

  6. I think I also go with Before Midnight, really loved that movie.

    • Nice pick! I loved it as well. It’s been rather weak so far for the year, but I thought the movie was amazing.

  7. As far as stuff that’s been released near me over the Summer, my faves are The Bling Ring and Frances Ha, though I agree Before Midnight was very good.

    • Nice picks. I still need to check out both.

  8. I would def say Star Trek Into Darkness, if that even makes it into the summer. The World’s End & The Conjuring were definitely the highlights of the summer. I really want to see Before Midnight though.

    • Nice picks! Definitely check out Before Midnight.

  9. Before Midnight is my personal favorite as well. It’s going to be hard to top that this year.

    • Thanks for the comment. I agree, it’s a strong contender for being the best of the year.

  10. “Before Midnight” and “This Is the End”

    • Nice picks! Two choices that I find a hard time disagreeing with.

  11. The Way Way Back is the best film I saw this summer. I expect it to be an annual July ritual at our house.

    • Nice pick! That’s a movie I regret missing in theaters.
