What Is Your Favorite Summer Movie?

Summer’s coming, meaning a whole new wave of films are coming out.  Whether you’re looking forward to some big blockbusters like Pacific Rim or Man of Steel or indies like Before Midnight or Only God Forgives, let’s look back at some summer classics.  So to celebrate the season, I thought I’d ask what’s your favorite summer movie? By that, I mean which movie do you think best represents the season?

My answer is easy: Jaws.  I bought a blu-ray copy a while back and am planning to see it on the Fourth of July.  It’s obvious why Jaws is a great summer film, though it’ll probably scare you from going into the water all season.  But what are your picks?

  1. Ghostbusters, but it’s partially for nostalgic reasons. I still LOVE the film though.

    • Nice pick. Ghoastbusters is a great comedy.

  2. The Dark Knight. Hands down. Great acting, action and characterisation. It makes you think as well.

    • Nice pick, definitely one of the best blockbusters of the past ten years.

  3. Jurassic Park!

  4. This is almost too large of a category to choose from.

    • Yeah, there are a lot of great summer movies. You can pick more than one film.

  5. Raiders of the Lost Ark!

  6. Still JAWS for me.

    • Glad you agree. The perfect summer movie.

  7. Dazed and Confused. Even though I’m no longer in school.

    • That’s a great pick. I was actually planning on watching it again soon.

  8. Iron Man 🙂

  9. I’m on board with Tim on Jurassic Park, but also Independence Day, which is pretty bad but it’s the epitome of a summer blockbuster.

    • Nice picks. Yeah, Independence Day’s a pretty bad movie but I always really enjoy it every time I see it.

  10. Ckckred, I was going to say Jaws and we just watched that over Memorial Day weekend, hooray summer!

I also enjoy, Summer Rental, The Great Outdoors and One Crazy Summer as far as summertime movies go.

    • Jaws is great any time of the summer.

Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors are great summer films. You can never go wrong with John Candy. Thanks for commenting.

      • So you are saying you hate One Crazy Summer? 😉

      • I’ve actually never seen it, I’ll have to watch it this summer.

      • Really? It is pretty funny and I think Demi Moore is like 14 in that movie.

  11. Once again I would have to agree with you…Jaws. Another might be John Candy’s The Great Outdoors. 🙂

    • Jaws is an awesome movie. Glad to see The Great Outdoors get a shout-out, I watched that recently and it was fun to watch.

  12. Yep, I’m gonna agree with you on Jaws as well. Lot of love for Spielberg here!

    • Great pick. Spielberg has definitely made plenty of great summer movies.

  13. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” – Spielberg, Lucas, Harrison Ford, John Williams, American hero, Nazi bad guys, politics, religion, history. What’s not to love.

    • Nice pick. I always love to watch Raiders in late August for some reason.
