What Do You Think About The Fargo TV Series?

The Coen brothers’ classic is coming to the small screen

I can talk all day about the Coen brothers, who are two of my favorite directors.  Fargo, their 1996 movie which was their major breakthrough into Hollywood, remains one of their best efforts.  It’s a hilariously dark thriller in the way only the Coen brothers would conceive.

But I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I heard that Fargo was going to be adapted for television on FX.  It will become a limited run series.  I’m a little unsure how the film will turn out, particularly that none of the original actors will reprise their roles.  I don’t know how involved the Coens are in the project but the series will be written by Noah Hawley and introduce new scenarios for the characters.  The concept is interesting but I’m not sure if it can be pulled off flawlessly like the movie.

But what do you think?

  1. No no no no no no no no no no.

    • I agree with you. Unless the Coens are involved, I don’t think it’ll live up to the original.

  2. I’m very conflicted about this… don’t know what to think.

    • I’m not sure what to think either. It’s very interesting and I know I’ll try to watch the first episode.

  3. Not so sure I like the idea. Unless the Coens are penning the story I think I’d pass.

    • Yeah, I agree. Without the Coens on board I don’t think the series could replicate the film’s success, though I will probably see an episode.

  4. I think it’s a great idea but too bad it’s an April Fools joke.

  5. Fargo TV series?? Sounds ill-advised to me.

    • I think so as well. I think only if the Coens were heavily involved would the series work.

  6. Same as everyone else really – unless the Coens are involved then it’s a no from me. Even then I think it should probably be left alone to be honest.

    • I agree as well. I’m also worried that since the original actors aren’t playing their characters, the new actors would just be doing impersonations.

  7. Whatever happened to this TV version of Fargo?

    • I never heard of it before. It’d be interesting to see Eddie Falco as Marge Gunderson.

  8. This seems dumber than the idea of Bates Motel.

    • It does seem like a bad idea. Without the Coens I don’t think the series could succeed.

  9. I often consider Fargo my favorite movie (if I were to choose). Not sure how it’ll work with less/none of the Coen brothers’ touch in it, but I’m crossing my fingers. I can only hope that it’ll be good.

    • Without the Coens, I don’t have much hope in the series. Maybe if they were overseeing the project, but without the original stars, it wouldn’t work.

  10. In addition: without Frances McDormand or Steve Buscemi, I’m worried.
