Four Rooms: The Misbehavers

A funny, effective short done by director RObert Rodriguez

A funny, effective short done by director Robert Rodriguez

I’ve never actually bothered to see Four Rooms in its entirety, even Quentin Tarantino’s segment.  The reason being is the general hatred the movie gets.  However, I have seen the short “The Misbehavers”  plenty of times and have enjoyed it tremendously.  It was definitely surprising for me as I’m usually not keen on director Robert Rodriguez’s work but he makes a superb and hilarious half an hour.

“The Misbehavers” plays out almost like a family comedy, only with profanity, smoking, drinking, and violence. The short kicks off with Ted the bellhop (Tim Roth), who works at a faded hotel, greet a wealthy couple played by Antonio Banderas and Tamlyn Tomita on New Year’s Eve.  They’re going out for a party and ask Ted to keep a watch over their two small children (Danny Verduzco and Lana McKissack).  It should be a pretty simple task for Ted but these two kids just won’t behave as they drink champagne, watch adult videos, draw lipstick on the wall, and find a dead body.

This is undoubtedly a parant’s nightmare, as the children indulge in some pretty foul language, but is deeply, deeply hilarious.  Tim Roth has perfect comic timing as Ted, who is exasperated by the children’s behavior.  Antonio Banderas is also good at playing a parody of himself, and I have to compliment the child actors.  Four Rooms is available on Netflix Instant and I do recommend at least seeing this segment.

  1. Good call. Yes, this is great fun. QT’s section is very good. Allison’s and Mr Rockwell’s not so good. the film is absolutely loved here in Poland, though.

    • I’ve only seen a bit of QT’s segment, which I semi-enjoyed. One of these days I’ll have to watch the entire movie.

  2. I had never even heard of this film, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the heard up mate! 😀

    • I would recommend seeing The Misbehavers but I can’t really recommend the rest of the movie, even though I haven’t finished it. You can find it on Netflix or on Youtube I think. Thanks for commenting.

      • No worries mate, it’s always a pleasure. I’ll be trawling YouTube and or Netflix now. Cheers mate! 😀

  3. Interesting! I’ve never heard of this short. Time to fire up old Netflix!

    • It’s definitely worth seeing, though the rest of the movie isn’t. I think you can find it on Youtube as well. Thanks for commenting.

  4. The Misbehavers was comedic brilliance at its best. The rest of the film I can do without.

    • Yeah, it really is comic genius. My favorite scene has to be when the parents return.

      • It’s just so classic.

  5. I’ve heard of the Four Rooms before and always wondered if they were an good. Nice review, I may need to watch this now.

    • I would recommend seeing The Misbehavers, which you can find on Youtube or Netflix. I never bothered finishing the rest of the movie in its entirety. Thanks for commenting.

  6. I don’t know why Four Rooms get a lot of hate…I blame Madonna. She ruins movies…LOL. I really liked the fourth room, but this room is my second favorite! The kids are so crazy!

    • Yeah, Four Rooms is unfairly hated. This is great. I haven’t fully watched the rest of the movie, but this one is great.

  7. Hmmm interesting, I wasn’t even aware of this. I’ll look into it! 🙂

    • I think you can find the short on Netflix or Youtube. I never bothered watching the rest of the movie. Thanks for commenting.
