Well, it’s about that time of year when the Academy Awards will be picking their nominations. So here’s what I’d like to see get nominated. These are my picks and not predictions, plus I have to mention I haven’t seen either Django Unchained or Zero Dark Thirty yet, so that’s why they aren’t here. I’m also combining the supporting and main actor categories together. So here are my choices in no particular order.
Best Picture:
Amour
Lincoln
The Master
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Moonrise Kingdom
Best Director:
Michael Haneke, Amour
Steven Spielberg, Lincoln
Paul Thomas Anderson, The Master
Wes Anderson, Moonrise Kingdom
Ang Lee, Life of Pi
Original Screenplay:
The Master
Amour
Moonrise Kingdom
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Adapted Screenplay:
Lincoln
Beasts of the Southern WIld
Life of Pi
The Dark Knight Rises
Argo
Best Actor:
Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Joaquin Phoenix, The Master
Jean-Louis Trintignant, Amour
Edward Norton, Moonrise Kingdom
Dwight Henry, Beasts of the Southern WIld
Best Actress:
Quvenzhané Wallis, Beasts of the Southern Wild
Emmanuelle Riva, Amour
Kara Heyword, Moonrise Kingdom
Sally Field, Lincoln
Amy Adams, The Master
Good stuff! I am dying to see Amour. Sadly it has never been showing here and may not until February. That sucks.

I was lucky to find it playing at a film festival and actually got to meet director Michael Haneke. I hope you see it; it’s a great movie. Thanks for commenting.

Good choices.
I think there will be a full ten nominees in for Best Picture. I’m expecting “Argo” and “Skyfall” to be added to your list
I don’t think “Moonrise Kingdom” will have any nominations in the acting categories. I think their roles are a little too quirky for Academy voters. Also, I would consider Edward Norton as a supporting character.

Argo and Skyfall would be on my top 10 as well.
I’d like to see Moonrise get some acting nominations, though that’s unlikely to happen. I think Norton had a supporting role as well, but I needed a spot to fill in for Best Actor. Thanks for commenting.

Interesting choices man. Great to see Beasts of the Sputhern Wild in there but surprised that Life of Pi doesn’t feature among the best film category.

Glad you agree with Beasts! I was going to put Life of Pi in, but I didn’t have enough space. I still wanted it to get a big nomination and I hope Ang Lee gets a Best Director nomination.

Lots of love for Amour here, definitely very high on my watch list after I missed it when it released. Definitely reckon Argo and Life of Pi will get best picture noms.

Amour’s great and probably would be my pick for the best film of the year. Argo and Life of Pi were close for making my Best Picture list. Thanks for commenting.

Some solid choices there. Lincoln’s a lock for adapted screenplay, right? LOL As is Day Lewis for Best Actor…
It wouldnt suprise me if Amour wins, especially seeing as so few people have seen it yet. LOL

Yeah, I will be very surprised if DDL doesn’t win. He’s great in it.
I don’t think it’s very likely Amour will be nominated since foreign films always have a tougher chance to get bigger nominations but would love it if it did. Thanks for commenting.

The nice thing is that most of these are likely to get the actual nominations at this rate 🙂 I was wondering if you’d care to join in on my Oscar Nominations Game, there’s still 2 days left if you do. Details are here http://rorschachreviews.com/2012/12/25/merry-christmas-plus-oscar-nomination-game/

Affleck should’ve gotten a nod for ARGO, that’s one of the biggest snubs this year. I agree that TDKR should get a few nods, too.

I was surprised to hear that Affleck wasn’t nominated, though I can’t complain about the other choices of directors. It’s a real shame that The Dark Knight Rises didn’t receive any nominations at all (I’m currently writing an analysis of the nominees that will come out tomorrow).
