Trailer Analysis: To The Wonder

Editor’s Note: In case the Mayans were right and the apocalypse is happening, well, you probably wouldn’t be reading this post.  Now I feel that this whole editor’s note is useless.

If I had to pick my most anticipated movie for 2013, it would undoubtedly be Terrance Malick’s new movie To The Wonder.  I was an enormous fan of The Tree of Life and chose it as the best film of 2011.  Malick is mostly known for having his films come out sporadically, so it’s a surprise to see To The Wonder come out so quickly.  But regardless, it looks fantastic.

The trailer does have many of Malick’s trademarks, with his beautiful shots of scenery and close ups of characters. He’s the only director I can think of who I would compare to a romantic painter.  It’s worth the price for me just to go to see the imagery.

To The Wonder is sure to be polarizing like The Tree of Life, and it’s received a wide variety of responses.  Regardless, I can’t wait to see this one,

  1. It certainly looks like an interesting film, thanks for introducing me to the trailer.

    • Yeah, it does look very intriguing and seems to be in the same fashion of The Tree of Life. I’m a fan of Malick, and I’m excited to see this one. Thanks for commenting.

  2. Great post. I love the trailer to this film so much. I cannot say I was prepared to ‘connect’ as a viewer to ‘The Tree of Life’, but now seeing this trailer, I know I will like it better than Malick’s previous film, because, possibly, I can relate to it more. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Jarvier Bardem in the trailer, too.

    • Thanks! It always helps to prepare for Malick’s films. I think this will be more narrative-focused than The Tree of Life, and I’m really excited to see this one.

  3. Oh yeah, ditto to everything you said. My most anticipated for next year and Tree of Life was definitely my favourite of 2011.

    • Yeah. I’ve seen The Tree of Life a few times since I first saw it and enjoyed it even more each viewing. This one I’m definitely going to see.

      • Yeah I have re-watched it too and absolutely loved it. I even watched if late one night after having a number of glasses of wine, which I thought wold be horrible and I would just end up turning it off. But even that was an awesome watch.
