Trailer Analysis: Not Fade Away

If you’re like me and a million other Sopranos fans, you’re probably eagerly awaiting Not Fade Away, David Chase’s long awaited big screen debut with Sopranos star James Gandolfini and music by Steven Van Zandt, a member of the E Street Band and another cast member of The Sopranos. It’s actually having its premiere at the New York Film Festival, but unfortunately the tickets were too expensive for me to buy.

And after watching the trailer, Not Fade Away may just have just taken the title for my most awaited film of the year, even more than LincolnDjango Unchained, and Life of Pi.  We’ve already received two excellent movies this year, Amour (my review will come out later today) and The Master, and Not Fade Away looks fantastic.

The movie is about three New Jersey teens who decide to start and band in 1964 after seeing The Rolling Stones.  It’s interesting to see the parallels between this and The Sopranos (both take place in New Jersey and Sopranos writer Matt Weiner went on to create the 60s era Mad Men).  I can’t be more excited to see this.  Not Fade Away makes its theatrical release December 21st.
