I’ve only just heard of David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook after it hearings its reception from the Toronto Film Festival. It has taken the movie world by surprise and is now considered the top contender for Best Picture.
So when I saw the trailer playing just before The Master, I expected to find myself intrigued by the trailer. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I may be the only one who thinks this, but I couldn’t enjoy the two and a half minutes of the trailer.
I’ve never been a particular big fan of Russell’s work. I loved The Fighter but was bewildered by I Heart Huckabees. And as I was viewing the trailer, I couldn’t really grasp the sense of the film.
The movie stars some big names including Bradley Cooper (who I don’t like), Jennifer Lawrence (who I kind of like), and Robert DeNiro (who is my all-time favorite actor, despite his recent work). I’m hoping the movie will be better than the trailer indicates, and it’s always unfair to judge a movie just based off its trailer. Either way I’m going to see it.
