Trailer Analysis: Zero Dark Thirty

I really wanted to like the trailer for Zero Dark Thirty.  It comes from Kathryn Bigelow, the same director who gave us the fantastic The Hurt Locker.  It has Jessica Chastain in it, whom I loved in last year’s The Tree of Life.  Yet I couldn’t find myself liking the trailer.

The real problem I saw was that the trailer seemed kind of over dramatic.  I might be the only one who thinks this, but Bigelow really seems to be emphasizing the hunt for Bin Laden in the movie just based on this.  That’s probably what we should expect from a movie about Bin Laden, but I wasn’t really expecting it to be that heavy, and I thought we’d see something about the actual characters in the film.

Of course, that’s just the trailer and it would be unfair to judge the movie after that. I’ll be sure to watch Zero Dark Thirty, and hope it’s as good as The Hurt Locker.
