Photos of the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey

Photos behind the scene of Stanley Kubrick’s legendary sci-fi masterpiece

Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director of all time behind Francis Ford Coppola.  I think Kubrick is the most innovative filmmaker ever, even more so than Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, or Ingmar Bergman.  He’s done so many genres, including war, horror, and psychological thriller, all of which include visual flare and a sense of irony.

Sadly, Kubrick died in 1998.  If he were still alive, today would be his 84th birthday. So in celebration, here are some pictures from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey, my personal favorite of Kubrick’s films.  Many people wonder how Kubrick did those fantastic special effects, which still look real today.  These pictures might help you learn about the movie.
