The Critic’s Choice Awards Winners: At Least They’re Better Than What The Nominations Suggested

Homeland was the big winner of the night, taking home Best Drama and Best Actress for Clair Danes (pictured)

I complained about the Critic’s Choice Awards the other day, where I mentioned the exclusions of LouieThe Colbert Report, and Justified, but included New Girl and Conan.  I liked the Television Critics Association’s choices far more.

Well, the voters have spoken, and I can at least say they’re better than the nominations suggested.  High fives to Bryan Cranston, Giancarlo Esposito, Clair Danes, Louis C. K., Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Archer, and Sherlock.

The two major winners of the night, however, were Homeland for Best Drama and Community for Best Comedy.  I would have preferred seeing Breaking Bad take the trophy, but I’m fine with that.  And I’m pleased seeing Community win (I was hoping Parks and Rec would take the award, but I love Community so I don’t mind).

Now here are my criticisms.  I think Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is an underrated show, but I wouldn’t put it over The Daily Show.  And does anyone else feel tired of seeing Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen take awards?  They’re fine in Modern Family, but certainly not the best in their category (and to make it worst, Nick Offerman, perhaps the funniest man on television, wasn’t even nominated).

But the thing that most irritated me was Zooey Deschanel’s tie with Amy Poehler for Best Actress.  Poehler 100% deserved her win, as I said before, but does anyone believe Deschanel is in the same rank?  Her cutesy “adorkable” schtick (that’s how FOX advertises the show) gets annoying after the first five seconds.  Putting her next to Amy Poehler is like putting a scrawled up drawing next to the Mona Lisa.

But they’re at least better than the Golden Globes.  Maybe that should be the motto of the Critic’s Choice Awards.  Winners below.
