Editor’s Note: Prometheus and more

I’ve heard some middling reviews for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but that hasn’t hurt my enthusiasm about it.  Here’s a four star review from Roger Ebert, who says the film “is a magnificent science-fiction film, all the more intriguing because it raises questions about the origin of human life and doesn’t have the answers.”

And if that doesn’t satisfy you, Michael Fassbender, one of the best actors in the movie industry who stars in the movie as an android, appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to talk about Prometheus.  I’ll be seeing the movie this Saturday, and after that Moonrise Kingdom.

  1. I’ve learned to avoid listening to Roger Ebert. His writing’s good, but it seems that if he likes a film, he gives it four stars. He’s even ADMITTED that he doesn’t like assessing flaws. Which I think is a critical error. What kind of review doesn’t analyze a film’s flaws?

Anyway, I’m going to see this on Saturday. Stay tuned!

    • I’m a big fan of Ebert, but I’ll agree with you that he is a little too nice in giving out four star reviews (Knowing comes to mind) and he doesn’t assess flaws as well as other critics.

Still, I’m tremendously excited for Prometheus, which I’ll also watch on Saturday. I’ll be sure to check your blog for your review. Thanks for commenting.
