A Perrier Sci-Fi Ad made from the likes of 2001

The other day, I heard about this French Perrier ad online, which is above.  It’s made Johan Renck, who said it was inspired by the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

2001 is one of my favorite movies of all time (it will definately make my top 10 movie list coming out in a month or so), but I can also see the ad getting inspirations from one of the greatest French directors of all time, George Méliès.

The ad takes on global warming, which is boiling up the planet.  So France decides to send up an astronaut into space, who stops the heat by pouring a drop of Perrier on the sun.

The ending doesn’t really make much sense.  Does the sun completely burn out, or just enough to go back to normal?  But it’s well-shot and directed, so that’s easy to ignore.  Plus, it’s an ad, so that logic is really unnecessary.

Oh yeah, this is isn’t meant to be promotion (I don’t even like sparkling water).  I was just interested in the ad, and wondered what you would think of it.
