Trailer Analysis: To Rome with Love

To Rome With Love, Woody Allen’s newest film, reminds me a lot of his film last year Midnight in Paris.  Maybe because it’s in a city outside of New York, or it is about the romance of a troubled individual (in Paris it was Owen Wilson, in this film it seems to be Jesse Eisenberg).

But for all Woody Allen fans, there’s one thing to be excited about: Allen’s in it!  He hasn’t starred in one of his films for quite a while now, and I was a little startled to see him in the trailer, not because I didn’t know he would be in the film (I did), but just seeing him again.

As for the movie, it probably is my most anticipated film of the spring after Moonrise Kingdom.  I also noted it has a really famous cast, not just with Jesse Eisenberg, but also Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Greta Gerwig, and Ellen Page, though I doubt the film will become like the derided New Year’s Eve.

The trailer certainly is funny, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see To Rome With Love on my top 10 films of the year.  This is a must-watch for movie fans.

  1. I think the fact that Midnight in Paris did so well may make the opening of this new Woody Allen movie one of the biggest of all his movies. I love his concept of featuring different European Cities. Have you seen his movie set in Barcelona? What did you think?

    • I didn’t see that one. Woody Allen has so many movies (somewhere over 40 I think) that it’s so hard to see them all.
