Trailer Analysis: The Dictator (Trailer 2)

I wrote about The Dictator‘s first trailer back in December, which I thought was funny, but I was concerned that the movie was scripted.  Sacha Baron Cohen’s best work Borat is funny not just because of Borat’s antics, but the fact that much of the movie was real.

But after the Oscars, I said I was really excited for the film.  Just seeing Cohen dress up as his Admiral Aladeen character from the movie and spill Kim Jong Il’s supposed ashes on Ryan Seacrest made me laugh out hard.

Paramount and Cohen have revealed little about the movie’s plot before the trailer, so I was assuming it would be Aladeen walking around New York and making jokes.  The trailer shows Sacha Baron Cohen’s character get kidnapped by John C. Reilly and gets his beard shaved.  Now no one knows his real identity and he gets a job at a grocery store.

I’m a little unsure of the plot, but I laughed even harder at the trailer than the previous one.  Sure, it features Cohen kicking a little kid and making a terrorist joke.  But what I like about Cohen is how he absorbs into his personas.

But whatever the case, I’m excited to see The Dictator.
