Santa Clause Conquers The Martians: The Worst Christmas Movie Ever

It’s a Wonderful Life and A Charlie Brown Christmas are two movies that evoke the true spirit of Christmas of kindness and charity.  It’s a Wonderful Life, which fellow WordPress critic Matt Stewart called his favorite film, is the story of George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) trying to save his town from Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore).  It’s a Wonderful Life definitely is the best Christmas film, and lands on my top 20 favorite movies.  A Charlie Brown Christmas is the story about Charlie Brown, angered by the commercialism of Christmas, tries to make a play about the birth of Jesus.  It’s the greatest Christmas special ever, probably because it’s the one of the only Christmas specials that does this.

But Hollywood always tries to push commercialism into the Holidays.  And that brings us to the classically bad movie Santa Clause Conquers the Martians.

Santa Clause Conquers the Martians is about aliens abducting Santa Clause and a few earth kiddies to show their alien children, who have been watching him on TV from outer space.

Stop me right there.  That’s the worse log line you can have for a movie.

The movie grows worse and worse.  Turns out some some aliens feel Santa Clause is corrupting their children and they try to kill him.  The film keeps taking bad and wrong turns into it eventually landed as one of the worst films of all time.

Is there anything good about the film?  Well, there’s the MST3K episode on it, which you could see part 1 below (find the rest on youtube).
