Breaking Bad Review: Why I should have watched the series before

Breaking Bad starts out with Bryan Cranston driving an RV.  There are two dead bodies in the back, and a knocked out guy in the driving seat.  The RV crashes into a ditch, and Cranston runs out, in his underwear, holding his gun, and saying his prayers to his family.

This first minute really makes you forget that Cranston once played Hal, the goofball dad of Malcolm in the Middle.

Bryan Cranston plays Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who’s also a car wash man.  He has a pregnant wife named Skyler  (Anna Gunn) and a son, Walter Jr. (RJ Mitte), who has cerebral palsy.  Walter Sr. about to turn 50, and he seems like a guy who is completely normal.  The problem is that one day, Walter learns he has lung cancer, and he has three years to live, tops.  Walt’s worried how his family would be able to live without him.  But Walt discovers from his raucous brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris), a DEA agent who catches drug dealers, about how much money drug dealers could make.  You can see where this is going.

In order to pay the bills, Walt quits his car washing job and with a former student he flunked, Jesse Pinkham (Aaron Paul), whose known around town as “Captain Cool”.  Together, they rent an RV and make drugs.

The pilot was brilliant, and made me wonder why I never watched the show before.  I guess now I have to catch up to the most recent season.
