How Hurricane Irene Can be Bad for the Box Office

With Hurricane Irene heading this way, studio heads are wondering how the east coast can be effected by the storm, most importantly because than people can’t go out to watch movies.

It’s been a pretty dry summer for films.  This year there was no Inception or giant blockbuster that wasn’t already a sequel (with the exception of Super 8).  Cowboys and Aliens was a bummer, and Conan the Barbarian was a bust.

This week there are no notable big films.  There’s Columbiana, which has the corny line “Never forget where you came from,” and Don’t be Afraid of the Dark.

I’m not going to do a box office update this weak, because, well, it’s just a dry movie season.  See you Monday, (if you’re still alive).
